Hi, I'm Davinia.
Chartered Accountant. Teacher. Business owner, more than once.
Former indoor cycling instructor. Someone who gets slightly too excited about stationery and, on occasion, double entry. (Yes, really.)

I trained as an accountant and discovered something awkward: I liked talking to clients. Explaining what was happening and why. Watching the moment when something confusing became something obvious. That turned out to be the part of the job I was built for, so I spent over a decade teaching accounting, business and finance before opening my own practice.
I've also run businesses of my own. Including one I closed, and cared about deeply. So when I tell you there's a gap between knowing your numbers and feeling okay about your numbers... that's not a marketing line. I've lived on both sides of it.
(I did an article about some of this called "Success, Shame & Moving On" you can read here)
A few things I hold to be true:
-
Your numbers are information, not a verdict.
-
Confidence comes from doing, not from reading one more guide. (I say this with love, as someone who owns many guides.)
-
Data and intuition can work together. You're allowed to use both.
-
A business should work financially and energetically. Yours specifically, not a generic one from a webinar.
-
Success is personal. There is no universal blueprint, and 'six figures' is not a personality.

I work with women and LGBT+ business owners
Usually 40-plus, usually several years in, usually brilliant at the actual work... and usually happier doing almost anything else than the bookkeeping.
They're carrying businesses, households and a low hum of money-dread all at once. My job is to take the dread out and leave the numbers in.
Speaking
I also speak at events: workshops, panels, and rooms of women who'd rather be anywhere else than a finance talk (my favourite audience, honestly).
If that's your event, email hello@damgoodbusiness.com.
