Accounting for sole traders in Brighton and Hove

You run your business, and you run it well. What you don’t need is your tax return sitting at the back of your mind from October to January. I take care of it properly, and I make sure you understand where you stand, not just what you owe.

I’m Davinia McGann, a Chartered Accountant and Fellow of the ICAEW. I work with sole traders across Brighton and Hove and East Sussex, in person or online.

Self Assessment, done for you

I prepare your Self-Assessment tax return from your records, make the adjustments needed to turn your bookkeeping into tax-ready figures, and submit it to HMRC once you’ve reviewed and approved it. You’ll know exactly what’s due and when, including any payments on account, so nothing arrives as a surprise.

Supported Self Assessment

Would you rather do it yourself, with an expert alongside you? Supported Self Assessment is a guided, two-session service. By the end, you’ll know what your business made, what you owe on it, and how to work it out again next year. You prepare and file your own return; I give you the method, the checklists and the support in between. It isn’t the right fit for every situation, and if it isn’t right for you, I’ll tell you at the start.

VAT returns

If you’re VAT registered, I can review your records each quarter and prepare and submit your VAT returns, with each one shared with you for approval first.

Regular bookkeeping

Whether you want your books kept for you or a regular review of the records you keep yourself, I’ll make sure everything is accurate, up to date and ready when it’s needed.

Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax set-up

Making Tax Digital isn’t a punishment. It’s a systems upgrade and rhythm change.

It's being phased in from April 2026, and it changes how sole traders and landlords keep records and report to HMRC.

I’ll confirm whether and when it applies to you, help you choose the right software, link everything up with HMRC, and give you the training to keep it running with confidence. More on software

More than a report

Accounting is the language of business, and I’m your translator. Every piece of work comes with a clear explanation of what the numbers mean for you, so you can make decisions with confidence and get back to the parts of your business you actually enjoy.
